最近、なんかサクッと雑学を暇つぶしに読みたいなと思って池上彰の「そうだったのか」シリーズを色々読んでたんんですよ。「そうだったのか中東」とか、中国とか、EUとか、ロシアとか。結構知らなかったことがちらほら出てきて読み物として面白い。 そこで、そうだったのかシリーズをあらかた全部読んでしまって、似たようなものないかなと買った「世界の見方」っていう新しい本をポチッと買ってみた。 まあ、そうだったのかシリーズに書かれている話が結構重複しているんだけど、その中に出てきた、国ごとに色々なビジネスをローカライズすることの大切さを具体的な事例で色々紹介する話があって、これがすごく面白かった。 ネット系のサービスって文化的なローカライズを軽視しがちに 僕はTaxnoteとか、Voicepaperとか作ってるんですが、ぶっちゃけ、アプリとか、Web系のサービスって、そのまま海外の言語に翻訳したらある程度そのまま使ってもらえるんじゃねえか？って思っちゃうんですね。 これって、実際そういう場合もあるので、判断が結構難しいのです。 例えば、Facebookとかは、海外からやってきて、Facebookなんて海外かぶれの奴らが日本にいながら外国の友達と連絡するだけで、伸びしろないっすよ。みたいな意見は、だいぶ前にはよくあったと思う。 で、そんなに日本向けにカスタマイズされてると思われないけど、今では結構普及している。 Twitterなんかは、日本語の圧縮率の高い言語性と相性も良くて、これまた特に日本向けに特別なローカライズがされているとも思われないけど、普通に流行った。 こういう、アメリカのサービスが結構そのまま言語だけ翻訳されて日本である程度はやっちゃう現象をちらほら見ているので、なんか、Web系のサービスは言葉だけ翻訳しとけば、あとは上手くいくかみとけばいいかなっていう考えが僕の中ではあったりします。 実際、ListTimerなんかは単純すぎるタイマーアプリなので、なんか知らないけど韓国ですごくダウンロードされたりもしてるし。 ただですね、これって、上手くいった場合はたまたまラッキーで上手くいくけど、ダメだった場合、やっぱりその土地の文化をしっかりと知っていないと、なぜダメだったかはわかりにくい。
